Bugbrooke
Cricket Club We
have two Saturday League teams this season with the first playing in
League 6 & the second in League 12 with both sides starting on April
26th. A lot of
work is being done on our ground & pavilion – come and have a
look!
We
have Friendly matches every Sunday starting on April 13th & 20th
until the end of September with midweek matches also. If you wish to be
involved with Junior Cricket contact Roger Stone (01604 842961). Last
year we had Under 10’s,
12’s & 14’s with Under 15’s in past years but this depends on
the amount of support for each age level. Evening practices will be held
every week during the season at our ground with dates to be announced.
If
you wish to join a progressive Club at its picturesque ground by the
brook get in touch with any of the above officers or myself. We have a
well stocked bar which is open most days during the summer where Tony
Bird will
always
give you a good welcome! Have a look at our websites
www.bugbrooke-cricket-club.bravehost.com &
www.bugbrooke.play-cricket.com for further information and chat.
Peter
White (President) 50 High Street (830452) Sport Relief Mile Pupils from Campion school did their bit for Sports
Relief when they completed a mile for charity during their lunch break
on March 14. Each department named an award and donated a
prize, including the Head Teacher's award for Best Fancy Dress, The Most
Musical or Dramatic Mile from Peforming Arts, and The Most Historically
Accurate Costume from History. The students also presented assemblies about the
charity and raised money with a cake sale. Katharine Burrows, who
organised the event alongside year 10 pupils, said: "We
had a total of 260 students and teachers taking part in our Sport Relief
Mile. The students and teachers had a fantastic time and the
weather was brilliant. We had many entries by both students and staff
for the fancy dress. The History Department dressed up as King
Henry VIII with his wives; Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, and Jane
Seymour." The school raised more than £500 for Sport Relief. Donna

St Michael’s Football Club The
closure of the season sees both the A and B sides competing for
runners-up spot in their respective leagues. This is the first time this
has happened and is indicative of the strength in depth of the adult
football in the club. The Bs have also achieved the remarkable feat of
reaching the final of the Northants F.A. Area Cup where they will play a
team from Peterborough. You may ask how do they get into a Northants F.A.
Cup when geographically Peterborough is in Cambridgeshire. Ask me
another. Well done to both teams for their performances. The
first 11 have promised much without fully achieving their potential. It
was hoped that they would get promotion now that the club has some of
the best facilities in the United Counties League but this is obviously
going to have to wait for another season. The
Reserves have coped well in the top Reserve Division and look likely to
finish in the top six. This has been achieved against the best UCL clubs
in the county and is a credit to those concerned with the team. The
strength of the youth set-up at the club looks promising with teams in
all age groups from 8 to 18 years. Many of the youth players have
progressed to the senior sides and probably accounts for the strength in
depth of the adult sides. All the teams are gaining valuable experience
and learning how to enjoy their football and become good sportsmen. Off
the pitch the club has completed a perimeter path all round the pitch
and their next project will be the implementation of more eco-friendly
floodlights using the latest technology. The lights will be reduced from
20 to 14 on six poles, thereby giving a better direction of light and
less spillage into the atmosphere. In the clubhouse the modernisation is
almost complete with a new oak floor being installed. The venue is
excellent for parties up to 100 and anyone interested in hiring it
should contact the vice chairman, Teresa Garlick in the first instance. As
soon as the current season is over, general manager Dave Sharp will be
preparing the pitches for the next season with some remedial works and
grass drilling. It is expected that flooding across the pitch from other
areas will have been resolved by the works undertaken with the new path.
This should enable the pitch to be drier in the future. John Curtis
